Meet the Coach
Hi, I’m Jennifer! I’ve always thought I was doing well health-wise, until I realized I wasn’t. I’ve always had asthma, always had ridiculously bad allergies (all year), but I’ve also always been active. I’m a physical therapist by trade with a specialization in orthopedics. I've helped thousands reach their goals and I built my career to a six-figure salary running an Orthopedic Residency Program. I made it! Right?
But I also was coming home exhausted, sitting on the couch while my husband cooked the dinner and barely even playing with the dog. I was bloated, constipated and had gas daily. I was tired but couldn’t sleep through the night. I stopped running, climbing and exercising in general, thinking I’d get some kind of adventure in on the weekend, but took every opportunity to cancel.
I thought it was all normal.
I finally broke free. With my husband’s full support, I quit the job and took some time off. And boy did I start sleeping in! I thought I’d start taking care of myself more, and I did, partially. But I didn’t feel a lot more energy, and none of the symptoms went away.
I simultaneously embarked on a new path into the world of travel therapy (I get asked frequently – just like travel nursing, but PT) and Functional Medicine training as a health coach. I learned that the thing about a travel job that is appealing is that you get to check out new places. The thing that’s less appealing is that you have to find your healthy habits again in each location, have increased stress learning a new workplace and working with new people, and usually get the “worst” schedule.
But with Functional Medicine and coaching, I also learned about taking time for myself, eating a diet that helps heal the gut, finding small ways to add movement, focusing on sleep hygiene, and calming the vagal nerve (read: get your body out of constant fight or flight mode).
So here I am now. Taking about half as much medication for asthma and allergies, enjoying daily activity (unless I need a day off, which I take without guilt), and NOT dealing with gas and bloating every day. I have so much more energy that I’m doing chores in the evening! I’m still on this journey and it’s not perfect. But I feel like I’ve achieved a life balance that works for me, and I feel healthy.
I’m ready to help you start your journey too. Let’s talk about your goals and dreams, joys and challenges.
It’s time to take care of you.
